How It Works

CSS defines 148 named colors that browsers universally recognize. This tool lets you work with them in two ways:

Hex lookup: Enter any hex color and the tool finds the closest named CSS color by calculating the Euclidean distance in RGB space. An exact match is highlighted when available.
Name search: Type a color name (or partial name) to instantly see its hex, RGB, and HSL values along with a visual swatch.

Distance Formula

The nearest color is determined by minimizing sqrt((R1-R2)² + (G1-G2)² + (B1-B2)²) across all 148 named colors. A distance of 0 means an exact match.
